'I heard the cuckoo with no food in my stomach,
I heard the stock-dove on top of the tree,
I heard the sweet singer in the copse beyond,
And I heard the screech of the owl in the night.
I saw the wheatear on the dyke of holes,
I saw the snipe while sitting bent,
And I foresaw the year would not go well with me.

The Wüsthof Classic
From the Wüsthof website..
Perfectly balanced, an extension of your hand.Wow, after cutting with dull knives for years this thing is down right scary. Good for murderous rampages too.. If of course you choose to use a knife.
Paper thin, son!

Pirate Rafting
From Mike's birthday two weeks ago. . .
The girls impressed everyone with a group jump from the big cliff. . . some of them regretted their less then perfect landings.
The guys also took the plunge

Camera Replacement

I did the normal thing and replaced my old camera with a newer, more expensive one - a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It sure is nice though. . .

hello from Ireland!
Ireland is amazing....and to be honest, I thought I might not enjoy it at all.
I wanted to say hello to the lovely friends I made in Montana!
And to share some local vernacular - I am off to have a bit of crack now.
Meaning - I am going to have some fun.

.org's gone mobile, son!

so I sent this to blogger using my new cameraphone.. If you want to do this, send a picture or text message to go@blogger.com. You will get a message back with an url and a key. Go to go.blogger.com, enter the key in the claim token box, enter the letters to prove you're a human, hit conginure, and select ".org" on the next screen (this is assuming you post here already). Then from now on, pictures or text sent to go.blogger.com show up on .org.. Hopefully the post's will be more exciting than this one... I plan on leaving work soon though, I promise.

Canon S60 vs. Rotweiler

The camera put up a good fight. Nitro chewed it for a while and then left it for dead in the corner of the yard. It held on though. Two weeks later, after several rainstorms, it was recovered and brought into the ER. With a new battery it snapped off two final pictures - and then gave up the ghost.
RIP
(this is the final picture it took)

Elephant Artillery
Just for Marshall. We had this little Indian guide with us who would randomly light off small BOMBS to scare away the elephants.

Mountain Bike Singapore
At least one country in the world designates trails for other users

But maybe its because they have gaurd monkeys? or.....
maybe its because they shoot first and ask questions later.

Alaska

After a couple "bumps" in the road. I made it to Alaska. I left on 6/11 and a fozen debit card and two blown tires later I arrived on 6/15. It was a sweet drive though. 2,570 miles of sweetness.

A picture I ran across recently from a month of two ago. The engine and sandbag wall are about 3 ft. tall.

It's what could only be called "people sitting on a plywood platform drinking beer"

Here she be, beached on the shallows.
Day 2 of last weekends trip, camped on the thing and everything. Floating has now been taken to the next level.

Saddle Peak to the 'M'
So we went on a completely reasonable bike ride today.. Around 6 hours, countless miles of hiking, and some seriously sweet views. A large portion of the ride was above 8000 feet, so my poor sea level lungs were hurting.. But we made it out without any serious injuries or bad weather. Been thinking about sleeping since I got back, but here are some pictures for now..
Climbing...
Riding the ridge...
All in all, it was a good ride... Got home late and very tired, but content.. More to come

What's new in Providence
Apparently all those times that I was angry about my streets being blocked off....well, it's been due to the filming of the new Showtime drama Brotherhood .
I just realized that I am posting on .org . ooops.
Well, enjoy. It just might not be as funny to you. Or it might be. That show Providence was a hit over in Australia....

I rule
Back in MT, after a horrible allergic reaction things were just peachy.
I bought a high end steel road bike frame for 15 bucks from a rummage(tag) sale. Some guy was liquidating peoples storage units who went delinquent. Haha, the frame hasn't hardly been ridden, if at all.. Poor derilict storage unit owner..

21st birthday

Mae's 21st birthday is tomorrow 6-7. The plan is go to floating in the afternoon, barbeque at our new place, and then most likely a trip to the bars. Our new place is 631 E. Davis. White house on the corner of Davis and Ida, Ida is a one lane gravel alley. All are welcome to come floating and/or barbequing. We'll probably be barbequing around 7 or so, bring something to cook and beer wouldn't hurt either. We'll probably leave to go floating around lunch time, give me a call if you want to go, 599-8286.

Beetles are COOL!!
My little bug trip for the summer. June 21 through Aug 3. With stops in Rome-India-Singapore-Malaysia-Borneo-North Vietnam-South Korea. The biggest chunks of time will be in India, Malaysia, and Vietnam, with a couple days in Rome, Singapore (4th of July), and Borneo to climb this mountain http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=10966
And it's all in the name of science to collect beetles for the Beetle Tree of Life Project http://tolweb.org/tree/phylogeny.html
where my PhD funding is coming from.
Beetles like this--
