we isn't dumb?

This analyzed our blog and decided on it's reading level. Strange.
Meatwad: It's over Frylock. We lost again. Just let it go and accept the truth that we is dumb…dumb as hell.
Shake: He's right for the most part. We got us a superstar. And we got two albacores that are just hangin around my neck.
Frylock: Albatrosses.
Shake: Yep. It's like the rhyme of the marinade happening all over again.

The Land of Poor Decisions
Here is my best one for the day. So went skiing at Brighton today, had a fairly epic storm brewing in these parts the last couple days. Here is a quote from the avy report from this morning: ( I like the "trail-breaking is a comical affair...")
Had a bunch of more successful lines than the one pictured above. Coverage was still pretty thin but most of the rocks and stumps were only giving out love taps.
James seemed to spend a fair amount of time studying the foliage right at snow line. This was of course in between marginal lines of PBR influenced decisions.
On a similar note, my 3.2% PBR is almost gone and I've been up since 5pm Sat. and feel a pretty serious coma setting in.

whiners
On Wednesday, attorneys for prisoners at Guantanamo called on the Supreme
Court to restore the Constitution and grant the prisoners habeas corpus‹the
right to challenge their imprisonment before a judge. "All have been
confined at Guantanamo for almost six years, yet not one has had meaningful
notice of the factual grounds of their detention," said former Solicitor
General Seth Waxman in his oral arguments.
good luck guys

Cider label.

Here's a label for the cider. I'm sorry I didn't use any of your names Ian, but they were too long to fit. Anyway, the current one isn't necessarily permanent. It means stems and wasps. The bottom half of this picture is meant to be the back label, the top will be the front. Let me know what you like/don't like and help me edit this draft.

gonna get it

Went to Brighton today. Decent skiing with minimal coverage and carnage galore. We watched the ski patrol sled down several people and it sounded like there were a bunch more, they had sleds lined up at the top ready to go. Anyway, apparently you can hike these peaks from the top of one of the Brighton chairs when the stuff is open. Just needs to fill in a little more, then it's going to get it, get ridden, yeah, so there.
is that a camera?

MEMO: Winter is Here
I didn't get the memo until this morning. Guess biking might be a little out of the question. And I have no idea where I packed my snow boots.

ESA Talk

I'm giving a talk December 12th at the Entomological Society of America Meeting in San Diego. I'm talking about the Diversity of West Indian Tenebrionidae. Can it get any more general? Anyway, I've been slaving away photoshopping beetles and think this one is cool!

SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE BEER
It actually happened, the unthinkable, the rumors are true, I'm leaving Bozeman for a real job in Lehi, UT. The company is called IM Flash and they make solid state memory, stuff for cell phones, ipods, ect... Lehi is about 20 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City. Luckily they have some of the best skiing and biking in the nation, one of the main reasons I took the job. I work a f'ed up schedule but get 3 or 4 day weekends every week, days off are usually midweek plus one weekend day. So I'll probably be back to Bozeman a fair share, after all it is a fairly sweet place with some pretty cool people. And I have a couple ski passes for around here. Everyone will always be welcome to come visit, lots of skiing, biking, place to stay, ect...

You got a job! What's it like to be the most "responsible" person I know?
Don't answer that, instead watch this video of two tesla coils playing mario brothers.
sorry Ian, I tried to find it somewhere besides youtube but no dice

Lawyers
I hope this is true. . .
Charlotte , North Carolina .
A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then
insured them against, among other things, fire.
Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great
cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on
the policy the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.
In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of
small fires.'
The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that
the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.
The lawyer sued and WON!
(Stay with me.)
Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company
that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the
lawyer held a policy from the company, which it had warranted that the
cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them
against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable
'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim.
Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance
company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his
loss of the cigars lost in the 'fires'.
NOW FOR THE BEST PART..
After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him
arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!
With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case
being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally
burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail
and a $24,000
fine.

Nice work guys
Rod Percival, 46, coasted his mountain bike down Las Flores Canyon Road, his dog Ayla skittering behind him. Like many residents, Percival and his wife had refused to leave Malibu. Late Tuesday morning, he used his trusty bike to take stock, as best as he could, of the fire danger.
A neighbor, Bruce Bolander, 43, asked Percival how things looked.
“We’re safe. I’ve just ridden around the entire canyon,” Percival responded. “The fire’s out.”
Bolander asked his friend if he thought there was any way to sneak his wife Bonny passed the sheriff’s barricade. She was at Duke’s, a popular restaurant down on PCH.
“Is she prepared to walk?” Percival asked, not conveying much optimism.
Bolander muttered an expletive.
Percival himself wanted to go down to PCH, but knew that if he did so, he would not be let back in.
“I need some beer. I’m out of beer,” Percival joked. “This is terrible.”
Yes it is.

Inspirational Quote?
"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."
– Helen Keller, 1957
This used to hang over Alex Lowe's desk. He died in the Himalaya in October 1999 in an avalanche that naturally triggered a long ways away.

My acting debut. Sort of?
The movie about our little beetle collecting trip to Italy is on the bill for the Emerson on Thursday night if anyone is interested. It seems like the kind of thing that residents of Bozangeles would be interested in anyway.
"A Wild Beetle Chase" is playing in Bozeman at the Emerson this Thursday! It
is playing as part of the Element Film Festival which is put on by the MTA
department here at Montana State. Here is a list of films showing:
WHITE WINGS OVER MONTANA
KIS-KA-DEE
FISH & COW
LUNACYFROLICKING IN CHOCOLATE
(intermission)
GRIZZLY (excerpt)
A WILD BEETLE CHASE
PABLOS HIPPOS
(short intermission)
EVILUTION
A CAT CALLED ELVIS
MICHAEL FRANTI IN BOZEMAN
The screenings start at 7pm.
