For the record there was a substantial amount of road riding in what would be best described as drenching rain. Just to make you office dwelling folk appreciate that roof a little bit...

Well that explains it...The United States Attentiveness map shows areas where weather may impact attentiveness for the current day.
Attention is the cognitive process of selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things. Examples include listening carefully to what someone is saying while ignoring other conversations in a room (the cocktail party effect) or listening to a cell phone conversation while driving a car. Sometimes attention shifts to matters unrelated to the external environment, a phenomenon referred to as mind-wandering or "spontaneous thought". Attention is one of the most intensely studied topics within psychology and cognitive neuroscience.
William James, in his monumental Principles of Psychology (1890), remarked:
"Everyone knows what attention is. It is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration, of consciousness are of its essence. It implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others, and is a condition which has a real opposite in the confused, dazed, scatterbrained state which in French is called distraction, and Zerstreutheit in German."
Bozeman also shows a low impairment index for reflexes, a nonexistent labor index and fairly positive mood index for today.

Labels: i'm sorry what was that?
As of a few hours ago I am retired from the flash memory business, hopefully forever. I finally reached the end and when I asked myself what the fuck I was doing there I had no answer. So I quit. I'm sick of spending 12 hours staring at a computer monitor without the light of day. I'm sick of a job that slowly sucks your will to live and crushes your soul. I'm sick of a company full of people that don't do shit. I'm sick of people trying to set me up with the knocked up chick. "No, I don't really want to go to dinner with her. Well, I think being pregnant is a pretty good reason." I'm sick of sitting in traffic whenever I want to go somewhere. I'm sick of all the fucking mormans. I'm sick of fucking beer I can't even get drunk on. So fuck it, I'm done.
So what now, I'll probably wander back to Bozeman. I'm going to ride my bike. I'm going to sleep at night and not during the day. I'm going to have every weekend off, just like everyone else. And when I run out of money I'll find a job that fits my lifestyle as and where it is at the moment. Not try to form a lifestyle around a job.
I'll definetly be back for the skiing, biking, and friends here. This place has it's merits but I got overwhelmed by the negatives. So I'm making a change, we'll see...

Last weekends ski trip was up Lone Peak, actually to the saddle to the East of the peak. The peak is about 6,000 vertical from where you park, the saddle is a mere 5k. Obscenely sunny and I took what might be the worst wreck of the year skiing down old fire roads through "crust covering sludge" snow.

Pretty impressive footage from the Gravelly range in Montana
This was 2 days after someone died there in an avalanche doing the same thing on a similar slope. His buddy doesn't appear to have a shovel on his back either.

WE NEED MORE GUNS!!!!
By DANIEL PERSON Chronicle Staff Writer
HELENA - At a marathon hearing Thursday, backers and opponents of a bill to expand gun rights in Montana painted distinctly different pictures of the state and its gun laws.
Proponents of House Bill 228 said gun owners in Montana are now held captive by gray areas in Montana statute that could lead to them being prosecuted for defending themselves with their firearm, or even displaying a pistol to deter would-be attackers.
But opponents said the laws already on the books work, and that the expanded gun-rights bill would hamper law enforcement’s ability to prosecute people whom they believe had wrongly used a gun.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Krayton Kerns, R-Laurel, is almost identical to a bill carried by then-Rep. Jack Wells, R-Bozeman, in the 2007 session.
If passed, the bill would, among other things:
= allow people to carry a concealed weapon without a permit;
= greatly strengthen self-defense protections in the state;
= allow people to display their gun to deter an attack;
= allow people to use a gun whenever at risk of physical harm;
= and, in shooting incidents in which the person who fired the gun claimed self defense, require the state to prove that it was not.
From one side:
“Too often, the victim becomes the criminal in our system,” said Brian Judy of the NRA.
Kerns told the House Judiciary Committee that Montana is made safer by armed citizens. He cited the recent shooting in Glasgow, and said while the assailant in that case killed one and wounded two others, a private citizen with a gun was reportedly able to prevent the shooter from causing more damage.
Dennis Paxinos, Yellowstone County attorney, said the bill fixes a problem that doesn’t exist.
“There is no case, there is no reason, for such a huge change in our criminal code,” he said.
Paxinos described a scenario in which two gangs approached each other in a public park. Under Kern’s bill, he said, it would be legal for both gangs to display their weapons to each other, then open fire.
“It eviscerates the tools we use now to combat these idiots,” he said.

http://www.kutv.com/content/news/local/story/Troopers-ask-for-help-to-solve-Fridays-interstate/S83_kGUKGUihRp1gnZ-2Ww.cspx?rss=991 The Salt Lake Tribune A driver brandished a gun at another driver Sunday in what investigators are calling an act of road rage. A motorist reported another driver was pointing a gun at him at about 1:30 p.m. while both were driving south on Interstate 215 near State Road 201, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Jesse Valenzuela. The gun-wielding driver was pulled over in his Chevrolet Suburban at about 3700 South. He was taken into custody but later was issued a citation and released, Valenzuela said. It isn't clear what initiated the dispute, Valenzuela said. Police are investigating whether an unrelated shooting Friday on Interstate 15 was also a road-rage incident.
