City gives curbside recycling green light
By AMANDA RICKER Chronicle Staff Writer
The Bozeman City Commission Monday night unanimously approved startup of a curbside recycling program.
The service will cost $10 a month to collect cardboard, paper, plastics, tin and aluminum, but only residents that use city garbage services will be eligible to participate. Restricting the service will leave customers for several private recycling companies already offering curbside removal in the city, Commissioner Sean Becker said, making the motion to set the service's parameters.
“It's a safe place to start,” he said.
The city's curbside recycling service won't be up and running for at least nine months, enough time to order a collection truck, but residents can start signing up immediately, said Steve Johnson, superintendent of Bozeman's solid waste division. Interested residents that use the city's waste service can call 582-3200.
