Lost Trail

The last trip was classic, 7 people in the suburban.

Some "East Shore" stunts at Wompatuck Park in Mass. It was about 4 feet up at the highest, which is plenty for me riding alone out in the middle of sketchy small town Massachusetts.

One of the old singletracks here had to be fenced off because it was discovered to have live land mines off the trail. Cool bunkers for bombs and stuff too. Posted by Picasa

Looking down from the top, there was also a section that went over a creek and a bunch of scary looking logs and stuff.

while im bitching

if you didnt know drilling in the anwr was stripped from the bill in the house but this quote is from a few months ago

"The bill’s sponsors said oil from Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, as much as a million barrels a day, will be needed to help curtail the country’s growing dependence on oil imports. Opponents argued the oil wouldn’t be available for a decade and even then at levels that would not significantly affect oil prices or imports.

An amendment to strip the Alaska refuge provision from the energy bill failed Wednesday night 231-200.

An attempt to require automakers to increase fuel economy to a fleet average of 33 miles per gallon over the next decade was defeated 254-177.

Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, R-N.Y., a co-sponsor of the auto fuel economy proposal, said it would have reduce oil use by 2 million barrels a day — more than could be taken from ANWR — by 2020. The House bill would include more than $8.1 billion in tax breaks, almost all directed at traditional energy industries; allow oil exploration in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska; and make it easier to build liquefied natural gas import terminals, even if states or local communities oppose the project."

I especially like "even if states or local communities oppose the project" what happened to states power?

"The bill, passed 217-215 after a 25-minute-long roll call, makes modest but politically painful cuts across an array of programs for the poor, students and farmers.

The bill drew unanimous opposition from Democrats, who objected to both cuts in programs for the poor and the fact that the deficit-reduction bill would increase the deficit when combined with a tax bill slated for a vote later that would extend tax cuts on capital gains and dividend income due to expire at the end of 2008."

FUCK THE POOR!!!!!!

Say what you want about conservative Christian televangelists. I think they are hilarious.

“I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God, you just rejected him from your city,” said Pat Robertson to the citizens of the Pennsylvania town. Dover recently voted out 8 school board members up for re-election who supported "intellegent design."

“And don’t wonder why he hasn’t helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I’m not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that’s the case, don’t ask for his help because he might not be there,” said Robertson.

Shit

Just thought I'd use this time to say: I'm a mechanical engineering graduate student working on FUCKING PROTEINS! I'm not even half way done with my education here and have no motivation to do my work. I'm specializing in design, but have been coding in matlab for the last year almost.

I almost want to quit and go get a job doing real design.

I don't see what kind of help a masters degree is going to be when they ask what I did in the interview and I tell them I worked with proteins and Matlab for two years. I don't want a job working with proteins or matlab, so why am I doing it? Because I don't want to be a quitter I guess. This isn't just me either, it's everyone in my lab, enticed by money and now some of them are trying to get jobs and failing because no one cares about proteins who hires mechanical engineers. This whole project is just a pipe dream, and now were going to be losing funding because no one wants to support it anymore without results. So my advisor wants me to finish my course work in three semesters, but I can't even do that because NO core courses are even offered next semster (I only need two more to be done)

If I don't get funding for my last semester I'm quitting and walking away with a smile on my face.

ok, i'm done venting...
