That is a nice picture Nate but totally incorrect. Having access to the original photographs [1] I was able to pinpoint the exact lat/long of each rider and photographer using landmarks and trail features and measure the distance between them.
The two photographers are marked as white X's. According to Topofusion they are .18 miles or 316.8 yards apart. The riders themselves are further away due to the much larger 35mm equivalent focal length used on the first pic (105mm vs 28mm) which tends to compress percieved distance. The distance between the riders is .27 miles or 475.2 yards.
